Your Procedure
The procedure you have selected is Venus Viva™. The goals of this procedure are to soften the fine/moderate wrinkles of the face, neck or hands, acne scars and textural irregularities. Venus Viva™ is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, using topical anesthetic.
Post-Operative Course
DAY 1-5:
The healing time for any given procedure varies between different clients. The following represents the general recovery phases you might expect. Individual clients may experience variations from this course.
Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:
Swelling of your wrinkles occurs immediately. Significant swelling of the treated and untreated parts may occur following your procedure and will be maximal at 24-48 hours. To minimize swelling, keep your head elevated. It is not uncommon for clients to have their under eye area swollen for the first 1 to 2 days, but this swelling will subside. There will be redness and very minimal warmth emanating from the area for the first 24 hours (feels like a mild sunburn). You should notify us if you experience pain that is severe or excessive, as this is unusual.

Activity:
Post resurfacing discomfort is mild, and you may return to regular activities immediately. It is advised that you avoid hot tub and pools for 24 hours (bacteria in them can enter into the newly created channels in your skin and cause an infection). Do not apply an ice or cooling compress, as the heat response is the body’s natural healing response.

Your mouth, if treated around the lips, may be very swollen, tight and feel tight when opening. Apply post treatment moisturizer recommended by the practice, as often as you like during the day and if the tightness is bothering you or becomes itchy, you may use Evian Facial Spray water, on the area as often as you like.

1. Make-Up: In 24 hours, most resurfacing clients are ready for makeup to hide the pinkness of the skin. You can apply mineral make-up using clean make-up brushes to minimize bacteria on the skin. It is important that you remove all make-up that is applied to the skin at night. Do not sleep with make-up on the treated area.

2. Sun Avoidance: Sun avoidance should become a permanent component of your long-term skin care program. Always use an SPF 30 or greater. You may apply sunscreen 24 hours after your treatment.

3. Long-Term Skin Care: In addition to sun avoidance, we suggest all clients use long-term skin care that will optimize the youthful, rejuvenated appearance you have achieved. We offer clients a program for long-term maintenance of your facial skin. This unique program offers state-of-the-art rejuvenating creams that are only available and administered by our medical team.

Warning Signs:
The following are some of the symptoms that should alert you to the possibility of an impending or existing complication and you should contact the clinic:

Infection: Infection may be present if you notice:
– Increased (rather than decreasing) facial swelling after the first 24-36 Hours
– Redness spreading beyond the area of resurfacing that is warm and tender to touch.

Pre-Procedure & Post-Care
-
This treatment is not recommended if you have an important event within 2 weeks of injection due to potential for bruising.
-
Avoid herbal supplements such as Ginkgo, green tea and anti-inflammatories of any kind for 2 weeks before and following treatment to limit bruising.
-
For the first 5-6 hours following Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin, remain upright and periodically perform facial movements in the areas of injections in order to work the Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin into the muscle - e.g., smile, squint, etc.
-
Do not participate in activities that include heavy lifting, vigorous exercise or straining for 2-3 hours (it takes approximately 2-3 hours for Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeominn to bind to the nerve and you do not want to increase circulation during that time).
-
Do not rub, touch, or manipulate Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin for 6 hours.
-
Avoid irritating products for 24 hours following Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin.
-
Make-up may be applied gently before leaving the office, remember to wipe up and away from your eyes or brows.
-
Bruising in the area injected is normal and often expected, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several weeks. Using/taking Arnica may help diminish bruising.
-
It may take up to 12 days for Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin to take full effect.
-
A follow-up visit at 10 days to 2 weeks is suggested to assess results for subsequent treatments, particularly if you are a first time client. If full correction is not achieved, you will need to purchase additional Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin for injection.
-
Re-treatment is typically needed between 2-6 months.
-
Regular injections usually yield a longer lasting Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau/Xeomin result.
-
If your upper lip was treated you will not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.
-
Although rare, infection in the injected area is possible. Signs of infection may include redness and tenderness in the infected area and fever. Should you develop an infection, antibiotics may be necessary. Please contact us should you have any concerns.

General Treatment Information

Avoid touching the treated area for six hours. After that, light makeup can be applied and the area can be gently washed with soap and water.
Do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold for at least two weeks.
Immediately after the treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is usually temporary and generally disappears in less than 6 hours after injection into the skin and less than 1-2 days after injection into the lips. Occasionally the initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer. Occasionally some patients experience swelling for about a week and the lips can look somewhat uneven during this time. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Cold compresses or ice pack can also be used to reduce any swelling, itching or discomfort.

Other types of reactions are very rare, but occasionally some patients have experienced other reactions. Please be sure to review the consent form for further details.

These aesthetic products are temporary injectable fillers and the duration of the effect can vary from patient to patient. You may wish to consider additional treatments before the effect has completely dissipated.

Instructions to Minimize Discomfort:
You may wish to take a regular dose (325 to 1000 mg – depending on your size) of plain Tylenol every 4-6 hours after your treatment for a day or so. This will generally make you more comfortable. It is also a good idea to apply ice to the treated area for 20 minutes every 4 – 6 hours for the first 12 –24 hours after your treatment.

Post-Treatment Instructions
For 2 Days Post-Procedure:
-
Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyper-pigmentation.
-
Do not put treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
-
Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
-

Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
-
Do not use loofahs or other means of exfoliation.
-
Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
-
Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
General Guidelines:
-
After receiving a chemical peel, the skin may look and feel like a mild windburn for the next 2 or 3 days. After 48 hours, a slight flaking may occur for 3 to 5 days, which can easily be controlled with moisturizers.
-
It is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight.
-
To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the post procedure solution for 3 to 5 days or until flaking has resolved.
-
Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. An SPF of at least 30 must be used daily.
-
Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
-
Do not pick or pull on any loosening skin. This could potentially cause hyper-pigmentation.
Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after your peel. You may resume the regular use of retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acid, beta hydroxy acid, vitamin c or bleaching creams ONLY after peeling process is complete.
